After planning and postponing our initial celebration in 2020, at last, we get a chance to celebrate our marriage. And we can't wait to celebrate with you! In preparation for our big day we have created this site that we will keep up to date with all of our wedding details.

Our love story began in a small city in the South of the Netherlands called Eindhoven. Kelly was living and working there after deciding to take on a large project at work across continents. Martijn was living in IJmudien (about 90 minutes north) at the time, and also decided to take on a new challenge where he was asked to stay during the week in a new city down south. They truly believe faith brought them together!

After a few months the two were becoming quite close friends, often getting dinner or some drinks after work. To make a long story short, some flirtatious banter was exchanged and some after work drinks, the transition to "more than just friends" seemed seamless.

When dating for about two years and commuting between two apartments situated at opposite ends of this small country, the two decided to move in together in Amsterdam, in which Kelly describes as her favorite apartment yet. Currently situated on a quiet street in one of Amsterdam's most popular neighborhoods, Martijn was skeptical of the move to the "big city" but is adjusting quite nicely. After all, they are still close to the airport which is quite convenient with their love for travel and Kelly's fixation on weekend city trips!

At the end of January 2019, on a quiet, cold night, Martijn casually popped the question as they were walking along the Amstel to a cute little French restaurant. Kelly was speechless for about an hour, as it was completely unexpected at the moment, but in the end it was absolutely perfect.

The celebration (a.k.a. The Big Wedding) was planned in September 2020, but as you all know the world went into lockdown and the celebration had to be postponed. Then life happened, Kelly and Martijn moved to Chicago early 2021 and in October of that year their beautiful daughter Mila was born. And now, at last, they picked a new date and they can't wait to celebrate with all of you.

Ons liefdesverhaal begon in zuiden van Nederland, Eindhoven om precies te zijn. Kelly woonde hier nadat ze een paar maanden eerder het Amerikaanse continent had verruilt voor een nieuwe baan aan de andere kant van de oceaan. Martijn woonde in IJmuiden en had ook besloten om aan een nieuw project te beginnen in het Brabantse land. Ze geloven allebei dat het lot hen hier samen heeft gebracht.

Na een paar maanden leerden de twee elkaar steeds beter kennen, zeker omdat er na het werk vaak wat werd gegeten en gedronken. Om een lang verhaal kort te maken, na wat heen en weer geflirt en een zoveelste borrel na het werk die door ging tot in de kleine uurtjes, bleek dat ze wat meer waren geworden dan “alleen vrienden”.

Na ongeveer twee jaar daten en heel wat kilometers, aangezien Martijn nog steeds zijn appartement in IJmuiden had, besloten ze om samen hun geluk te beproeven in Amsterdam. Voor Kelly is het appartement inmiddels de fijnste plaats waar ze ooit gewoond heeft. Martijn had nog wel wat bedenkingen om te verhuizen naar deze rustige straat in de Amsterdamse Pijp, maar hij heeft zich in enkele weken al helemaal aangepast aan het Amsterdamse leven. Ze wonen tenslotte nog steeds vlak bij Schiphol, wat goed uit komt met hun passie voor reizen en Kelly haar drang om telkens weer een nieuwe Europese stad te ontdekken.

In januari 2019 tijdens een koude winternacht waren ze op weg naar een gezellig Frans restaurant. Wandelend langs de Amstel ging Martijn, totaal onverwacht, op één knie en vroeg Kelly ten huwelijk. Zij zag niet aankomen en was een uur lang totaal sprakeloos, maar uiteindelijk was het een perfecte avond.

De grote bruiloft in Chicago moest helaas worden uitgesteld. Na het verhuzien naar Chicago en de geboorte van hun prachtige dochter Mila duurde het even. maar ze hebben een nieuwe datum geprikt en nu, eindleijk, kunnen we dit samen met elkaar vieren!
